The Need For British Virgin Islands Law

By Timothy Kennedy

Law and order is important in society. It facilitates the peaceful conduct of business. When there is lawlessness, nothing meaningful can take place. The government will not be able to function and people will not be able to do their businesses. British Virgin Islands (BVI) is one of the territories of the UK. In this part of the world, British Virgin Islands law plays an important role. It governs the day to day life of people in BVI. It does not only apply to people but it also applies to businesses and all types of organizations.

According to the body of law, every single person has a set of freedoms and rights. These are fully defined by a number of precepts. If the right of an individual has been breached, one has the right to pursue the necessary legal settlement. One has the right to vote and access all the services of the government. The freedom of speech is very important.

On one hand, there are rights and freedoms. On the other hand, there are responsibilities. There are things that a citizen of a country has to do. It is the responsibility of every parent to take his child to school. Failure to do that will lead to prosecution. One is also responsible for keeping the environment very clean.

Taxation is a big responsibility. No one can escape taxation. It is just like death. The good thing about the BVI is that there are very friendly taxation rates. Individuals have to pay an income tax that is calculated based on their monthly income. For the case of corporations, corporate tax is paid on the net profit at the end of the year.

BVI law also facilitates the seamless conduct of business. There are stipulations that relate to companies, partnerships, sole proprietorship and other types of business formations. There is a chapter that deals with how to form a company in British Virgin Islands. The legal definition of a company is that it is a separate entity from the board of directors.

The constitution is one of the most important documents in a country. It covers many areas of life and business. Preparing the constitution usually takes many years. Legal experts are usually involved in constitution preparation. The constitution can be amended so that to reflect the present realities of society. That has to be done through a referendum process.

There are experts of the constitution. They are called lawyers. Judges and lawyers are the people who usually safeguard the constitution. If there is the need to explain a constitutional issue, a lawyer will definitely have to be involved. He is also the professional who usually represent individuals in court. At times, legal assistance is necessary.

Illegality is something bad. It should be discouraged with the strongest terms. Legal living needs to be the case irrespective of where one resides. Rights and responsibilities are a two-way traffic. That means that as much as one wants his rights to be respected, he should also respect the rights of other people.
