What You Need To Know When Buying Natural Clothing Los Angeles

By Deborah Thomas

With the global shift toward things which are renewable and biodegradable, the world of fashion has also started making changes. This can be easily seen with increase of people turning to natural clothing Los Angeles. Natural materials are being used to make almost any garment, be it bags, trousers or sweaters.

Normally, when you go shopping, most people pick something that looks good, and fits well. Unless you are shopping for special occasions, or sensitive people, you might not even look at the fabric of what you are buying. The main types of natural fabrics available are cotton, linen, silk, wool, cashmere, hemp and jute. Although some of them might be bit pricy like silk and cashmere, cotton and linen are cheaper, and very easily available.

Buying the garments is not enough, you need to know how to properly launder, and store them. If you buy cotton and linens when planning to clean them, refrain from dry cleaning. It is better to hand wash them with hot or warm water. These materials tend to shrink and therefore, you need to properly dry them. With cotton, you should not leave the material to completely dry. You should collect them then iron them dry.

Silk, cashmere, and wool, will need a lot more care. There is the option of getting them dry cleaned, but if it is done wrongly, this could also ruin your clothes. These will need to be hand washed with warm water, and you should ensure they do not stay in the water for long. When drying, first press them with a towel, then let them air dry. When ironing things like silk, you will need to do it on very low heat because it burns easily.

Even when you decide to transition to natural fabrics, it does not have to be a sudden move. You can do it gradually in stages. You may opt to first buy a few items then if you like them, continue to slowly phase out synthetics from your choice of clothes.

How you store your clothes also matters a lot. If you just pick them and throw them all in together. This can be disastrous. If some are not completely dry, they might start to develop mildew and your clothes will smell damp. You can lightly spray the wardrobe or put something with a nice scent at one corner, to keep the storage space smelling fresh.

Once you choose to invest in garments made from organic fibers and you take good care of them, you will find that you are more comfortable, and happy with the clothes you wear. It is also a healthy choice. Quite a bit of the chemicals used to make the synthetic fibers, are absorbed into the body. You will also notice that your cotton t-shirt is still fine after a few washes, when compared to your nylon shirt.

In case you want to start buying this kind of clothing, there are a number of shops in Los Angeles that sell them. You can ask around among friends who own these garments, or even at the shop where you normally purchase your clothes.
