It is alarming at the rate which nursing home abuse cases are raising. Such occurrences have had reports of the old persons being abused sexually or physically and in other cases they are not given food. These uncouth behaviors are conducted by the facility employees. Media has been able to cover laws that are supposed to assist in stopping this extensively.
In Canada senior people facilities are occupied to the fullest. Such occurrences which have been filed are not usually isolated or random. The claims are not few but very many in hundreds and they do not take place in particular facilities but incidents are all over the nation. This begs the question about people morality levels and respect to the elderly.
Some families set devices for their loved ones so that they can be able to tell how they are treated in these homes. This comes as a shock to them when they learn how badly they are being treated. The reality is that the elderly are taunted, spoken in a very bad language, beaten or abused physically, and also abused sexually.
A classic action lawsuit was set up in 2003 against senior care homes in Quebec and this was concluded in 2013. In a huge settlement, the families of the elderly in those senior care homes, most of whom had since died, were given $7 million to share as compensation. This partly helped them cope with their situations.
Lawsuits are being filed on daily basis since abuse is on the rise. When such an incidents occurs and the family members are aware the first initiative should be to notify the director of the facility. When they are adamant in taking action then report can be given to ministry of health for action to be taken. At times people get frustrated if corrective actions are not taken to a point they engage the media in occurrences which they have filed evidence.
There is a case of Camille Parent that was caught on camera with the caretakers molesting her. This tape was recorded by her son because he was not getting action from the rest facility administration and with tape he took it to the media and action was taken. The tape showed that they were molesting her and waving wet sheets on her face.
Nursing home abuse occurrences should not be tolerated at all. The right action should be taken to stop employees who take advantage of the helpless. States should formulate bills which seek to protect the elderly in such facilities. These bad engagements should be terminated at all cost as a healing process to the society, since this portrays decay in morality levels.
